A new year and fresh start - aren't New Year's resolutions great opportunities to better ourselves? It always seems perfect until it's time to make the changes, and then things get much more difficult. It's always easier to say than do, after all!
For all of our sewing friends out there who want to make the most of the new year but don't know where to start, we've come up with 5 very manageable resolutions that can be easily kept and will help you keep making moves to becoming a better seamstress.
1. Join a Sewing Club or Class
We have plenty of club and classes for all experience levels! It's a great way to get out and meet new people who have the same interests as you, and learn a new skill while you're at it! You can sign up for these events on our calendar or by calling the store at (317) 757-8340.
2. Use the Fabric You Have
We've all been there - there's a basket or bin full of unused, perfectly good, beautiful fabric but every time you go to the craft store, another pattern catches your eye and you think of a project that absolutely needs that pattern. This year, choose a project and make the resolution to use up your stores! Then, you can make way for the new fabrics that are always coming into the store!
3. Make a Project that you have Saved
Almost like the fabric resolution, making the promise that you'll actually make the effort to start a project you've had saved to your Pinterest boards, your Facebook page, or your photo album on your phone. Growth begins with the unknown! If it interested you enough to keep it there, try it! Make something new this year that you've wanted to make for a while.
4. Venture Out of Your Comfort Zone
Remember, the name of the game is keeping your resolutions attainable so that you're able to follow through with them. Getting out of your comfort zone doesn't have to be a big leap - it could be choosing a more complicated pattern or project, working with a fabric you aren't familiar with, or learning a new tool. Nothing crazy, but it's enough to break any monotony you may have accidentally fallen into! Break the cycle this year, and explore your limits!
5. Make Something You Sew Part of your Wardrobe
It's always fun to try and make clothes, but are you wearing the clothes that you make? A good resolution is make something you feel comfortable wearing and then wear it! All too often, we might make clothes for others, but when was the last time you made something for yourself? Break that barrier and wear your style proudly!
There is so much to explore when it comes to sewing New Year's resolutions, so pick what's obtainable for you! If you feel good about it, making a resolution is worth every extra second you might put into practicing. Go into 2023 with high hopes and the grit to get it done, and you will!
